Getting a new tattoo is exciting, but proper aftercare is key to making sure it heals well and looks amazing for years to come. Here’s a quick 3-step guide to keep your ink healthy and vibrant.
Right after your session, your artist will cover your tattoo with a bandage or plastic wrap. Keep this on for the time they recommend — usually a few hours — to protect it from bacteria.

1. Keep It Clean
After removing the bandage (usually after a few hours), gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Use your hand—no scrubbing or washcloths. Pat it dry with a clean paper towel. Let it dry for few minutes before applying any oinments. Make sure there's no plasma coming out. Else wash it again and pat it dry.

2. Moisturize, but Don’t Overdo It
Apply a thin layer of a recommended tattoo aftercare ointment or a fragrance-free lotion. Avoid petroleum jelly and anything too thick, as it can suffocate the skin and cause fading or breakouts. After you apply the oinment make sure to wipe out the excess oinment with a paper towel / pat it dry. Make sure it's not greasy. It easy to be tempted to apply more if it's your first time getting a tattoo but too much of it is only gonna make the tattoo take longer to heal.

3. Protect It from the Sun
Sun exposure can fade fresh tattoos fast. Avoid direct sunlight, and never apply sunscreen to a healing tattoo. Once healed, always use SPF to preserve the ink’s vibrancy.
By following these simple steps, you’ll give your new tattoo the best start possible. Remember, great ink deserves great care!
